Together with our airline partners, we are making an effort to apply baggage rules consistently so that you know what to expect when travelling. If your journey involves multiple airline partners, please be aware that baggage rules may vary. In some cases, the baggage rules that apply for your journey may be those of our partner airlines. Baggage advisory to passengers with itineraries combining PAL and American Airlines

Effective immediately, American Airlines’ long haul international main cabin tickets in all markets will include one free checked bag. This new policy shall impact itineraries combining American Airlines (AA) and Philippine Airlines (PAL), where AA is the carrier on the first coupon of the overall ticket.

 

If your itinerary is in one ticket and originates from USA, American Airlines (or any first Marketing Carrier) determines the baggage allowance and apply their own airline rule.

 

Sectors via PAL and Partner Airlines:

AA or (any Partner Airline) determines the FBA and excess baggage charges

Los Angeles – Miami

PAL

 

Consequently, if the itinerary originates from the Philippines where PAL is the first Marketing Carrier, then PAL determines the baggage allowance and apply PAL’s airline rule up to the final destination.

Baggage
Excess valuation may be declared on certain types of articles. Carriers may apply special rules for fragile, valuable, or perishable articles. Check with your carrier.


Checked Baggage

Carriers may permit a free checked baggage allowance, which is set by the carrier and may differ by class, and/or route. Carriers may apply extra charges for checked baggage in excess of their permitted allowance. Check with your carrier.


Cabin (Unchecked) Baggage

Carriers may permit a free cabin baggage allowance, which is set by the carrier and may differ by class, route, and/or aircraft type. It is recommended that cabin baggage be kept to a minimum. Check with your carrier. If more than one carrier is providing the transportation for your journey, each carrier may apply different rules on baggage (both checked and cabin).
 

SPECIAL BAGGAGE LIABILITY LIMITATIONS FOR US TRAVEL:

For domestic travel wholly between US points, federal rules require any limit on a carrier’s baggage liability to be at least US$3300.00 per passenger, or the amount currently mandated by 14 CFR 254.5.
Important Notice
Each flight ticket has its own Free Baggage Allowance policy. This FBA entitlement is valid only on that specific flight and may not necessarily apply to your connecting flights. PAL or other carriers may require you to pay excess baggage fees if your FBA entitlement is lower on your connecting flights.

Infant's Baggage

An infant may also be allowed one fully collapsible stroller or infant's carrying basket or infant's car seat subject to availability of space.
