1960s

 

PAL Enters the Jet - Age

The flag carrier enters the age of jet-powered aircraft and re-establishes its mission to relink the Philippines to the world. Passengers beginto sample the comforts of shorter travel times on Douglas DC-8s for international flights and BAC One Elevens on domestic flights.

 

1960's Milestones

March 19, 1960 

PAL inaugurated its first Fokker 27 Friendship flight to Cagayan de Oro. 

 

July 16, 1960

PAL reached the 5,000,000 mark in the number of revenue passengers onboard a Douglas DC-3 in "El Economico" service

  

June 20, 1962 

PAL DC-8 “Sampaguita” left for its maiden flight to San Francisco via Honolulu. This becomes the first international jet service operated by a Philippine carrier.

 

May 20, 1965

A Fokker 27 carried PAL's 10 millionth passenger from Cebu to Davao.

 

October 6, 1965

PAL flies its inaugural service to Sydney with a Douglas DC-8 "Mabuhay"

 

November 01, 1965 

PAL opens a DC-8 service to Singapore with its second aircraft "Mabuhay"

 

November 01, 1968

PAL introduces flights to Saigon with PALJET One Elevens

 

June 19, 1969

PAL introduces BAC One Eleven service to Bali, Indonesia
