Emerging from a challenging decade, PAL recommits to its network-building mission. The flag carrier restores more routes, rebuilds its secondary hub in Cebu, reintroduces turboprop services through its affiliate PAL Express, and accepts its first long-haul twinjet, theBoeing 777-300ER.
2000's Milestones
March 31, 2000
PAL returned to profitability with earnings of PHP 44.2 million on a 2.4% rise in total revenues to PHP27.27 billion for the fiscal year, after 12 months of financial rehabilitation.
September 1, 2000
PAL physically turned over its Manila maintenance facilities to Lufthansa Technik Philippines, and entered into a long-term technical service agreement with LTP.
October 20, 2006
PAL accepted its first Airbus A319-100 in a Manila ceremony attended by close to 1,000 guests led by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The A319 was the first of a wave of brand new single-aisle, A320 family jets that would serve as the backbone of PAL’s domestic and regional network.
November 10, 2006
PAL ordered its next generation of long-range widebody aircraft, with PAL President Jaime J. Bautista signing purchase agreements for 6 Boeing 777-300ERs in Honolulu. The first B777 would arrive in 2009, and the fleet would grow to ten B777s by 2018.
May 05, 2008
PAL launched a sub-brand for the first time, with PAL Express operating a fleet of Bombardier Q300 and Q400 turboprops on secondary domestic routes. The maiden service was from Manila to Caticlan.
